Amy Stone, Ph.D.



A proponent of user-centered design for over 20 years, Amy has watched the field grow from a new idea to a core discipline for competitive advantage in the marketplace. Today, top notch user experience is expected by consumers, and the user centered design process has become an integral part of the product development lifecycle.  

Amy started her career in user-centered design when the field was in its infancy. At the time, computer applications were difficult to use, widely regarded as designed only for developers. Over the last 20 years she has worked with start ups to Fortune 500 companies to help them leverage user research as an integral part of the product development life cycle. 

Amy has research and design experience working on products ranging from drive-up ATMs, interactive television, remote controls, cell phone interfaces, and speech and handwriting recognition devices, to web applications in the financial, entertainment, travel, health-care, and consumer products domains. She has worked at many of the top research and consulting organizations in the field of Human Computer Interaction, including UserZoom, NCR Human Interface Technology Center, U S WEST Advanced Technology Labs, iXL, and User Insight.  She has worked with the Centers for Disease Control, the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, to establish best practices for immunization information systems used by health departments across the country.  


She is currently a Research Partner Director at UserZoom, a helping globally recognized financial and insurance companies increase their UX Research maturity by leveraging both qualitative and quantitative research throughout the product development life cycle.  She helps them democratize research, create measurement programs, and develop strategic research roadmaps to help inform product decisions.   


Amy has a Doctorate in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Colorado, and a Bachelor’s in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University.
